Work Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with 30 min lunch break (Mon- Fri) * Flexibility to work day/ afternoon and weekends required.
Compensation: 60-70k DOE (MSP, Group Insurance, RRSP and DPSP after completion of the probationary period.)
Responsibilities:
Current (present until 6 months)
- Plan, organize and supervise activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking company trucks to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with customer requirements.
- Responsible for all inside, outside drivers, as well as managing both loading at the company’s Terminal and outside vendors.
- Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
- Schedule a monthly meeting with all drivers to address issues that come up as a group covering topics of safety protocols, trucking issues, and others
- Collaborate with other managers and staff members in order to fulfill customer orders.
- Monitor fleet performance to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, and government regulations.
- Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
- Define department and employees goals and review staff performance.
- Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
- Direct and coordinate activities of other department in order to obtain use of equipment, facilities, and human resources.
- Direct activities of staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment and vehicles.
- Negotiate trucking rate with off hire carriers and companies.
- Maintain good relations with shipping line, trucking associations, vendors as well as other industry partners.
Tasks on hold (after 6 months)
- Truck brokerage including cross border shipments, domestic, and other trucking shipments outside the scope of container within BC
- Implement schedule and policy changes pertaining to the drivers
- Conduct investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures.
- Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
- Set operations policies and standards, including determination of safety procedures for the handling of dangerous goods if applicable.
- Recommend or authorize capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property in order to increase efficiency and services of the department.
- Prepare management recommendations, such as proposed fee and tariff increases or schedule changes.
- Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientation, quality improvement, safety orientation, new regulation and industrial changes.
- Participate in industry and association meetings and events, in order to build networking and relationship.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of previous experience in similar positions is required.
- Strong customer service skills and detail oriented.
- Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written
- Second Language (Mandarin or Cantonese) is an asset.
- Computer skills; Microsoft office, email, internet explorer, etc. and ability to learn proprietary business software applications
- Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, organize and prioritize work load in order to meet numerous deadlines.
- Positive attitude, friendly, outgoing personality.
- Willingness to learn and ask questions.
- Valid BC class 5 driver’s license.
